Hall of Famer Morten Andersen to visit Copenhagen Towers

Youngsters hoping for a career in the NFL can get a taste of the sport and a unique meeting with the most famous Dane to have experienced the NFL on his own body, when the Copenhagen Towers open their doors at the annual ‘Rookie Day’ on Saturday, February 3rd.

Among fans of American football The Great Dane is a legend. His career spanned a quarter of a century in one of the toughest sports in the world. He holds numerous NFL records. And now he is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, just the 9th member of the exclusive company who was born outside the United States.

In other words, it’s not just anyone, who will pay a visit to the Danish champions during the club’s open house. Morten Andersen is a very dedicated ambassador to the sport and his visit to the Towers bears witness of his excitement over the rapid growth of the sport in Denmark.

The president of the Copenhagen Towers, Jakob Munksgaard, is thrilled by the impending visit: “I am very proud that Morten Andersen has chosen to visit us. We look very much forward to sharing the joy of our fantastic sport with our rookies and Morten”.

Anyone, youth as well as adult players, with a dream of giving American football a try is welcome at Rookie Day, where equipment and experienced coaches will guide new players through a fun, exciting and tough program. And naturally there will be a chance to have a chat with Morten Andersen and perhaps take a selfie.

In the 1970s Morten Andersen showed the way and for a long time he was the only Danish player in the NFL. But lately players, who got their first taste of the sport here in Denmark, have begun to make themselves known in the United States. Andreas Knappe just signed a contract with the Denver Broncos, while pundits have high expectations to Hjalte Froholdt. A future in the NFL seems within reach of the Dane, who has one season left with his college team, the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The road to the NFL is long, but new players can experience their first tackles, blocks, passes and catches the day before this season’s Super Bowl; Saturday, February 3rd at 12:00 – 14:00 at the Copenhagen Towers’ turf field, K2, at Gentofte Sportspark.
