The first game of a season is always exciting. Both teams expect great things. The players long for that first, bone jarring hit. When the Towers traveled to Aalborg to take on the 89’ers the excitement was scarce and only one team won: The Towers
To a Copenhagen-based team a road trip to Aalborg is about as long as it can possibly be. Not an ideal way to prepare for that all-important first challenge of the year. Several players set their alarm clocks to 4:30 in order to be ready for the 6 hour bus trip. Near midnight the players disembarked the bus again after a comfortable, if unspectacular, 27-7 win.
Coach ICE’s face – and his booming voice – is hardly new to Towers players and fans. Once thing that has changed, though, is that Coach ICE has left the U19 head coaching position to become defensive line coach for the Towers adult team. After the game Coach ICE was happy with his defensive line. The 89ers running game was largely unsuccessful, which left the game in the hands of 89ers QB Kasper Skyum, a former Tower.
Since local soccer team Aab hosted Nordsjælland FC in the Superliga on the same day, stadium facilities were not available to the 89ers. Instead the game was played on a practice field.
The Towers have a weekend off, before facing the Gold Diggers in Søllerød on Thursday May 4th at 15:00 (3 p.m.)
